Lenten Giving
Each year, the children in the Elementary Religious Ed program are asked to take part in a service project during Lent. This is a great way for our children to model giving/sacrificing to help others. The funds generated from this year's Penny Wars will go towards the purchase of Bibles for our First Communicants and new books and videos for our Parish Library.
For those not familiar with a ‘Penny War, it works something like this:
Each grade competes against one another to collect the highest PENNY total. The total of pennies can be reduced by a competitor when SILVER coins are deposited in that grades bucket. For example: Grade 4 has $3.00 in pennies in their bucket. Alex from Grade 5 sees this and drops $5.00 in quarters in their bucket. The Grade 4 total is now -$2.00!
Bins for each grade will be in the back of church and at the entrance to school on class nights beginning on ASH WEDNESDAY, 2/17/10 . The winning grade will receive a Dilly Bar Feast with Father Tom!
We have about 40 students in our First Communion program this year. Each bible is $20. Your family may also sponsor the purchase of one Bible for a child. Inside, the book would be inscribed: "This Bible is a gift to you from the ________ Family of St. Jude Parish."
The Word of God-what an amazing gift to give a child. Please help us make this a possibility for all 40 students!
