What Is Children's Liturgy of the Word?
The Children's Liturgy of the Word is based on the scripture readings for each Sunday and includes a brief opening prayer, a childfriendly presentation based on that Sunday's scriptures with activites designed to reinforce the Gospel message.
At what Mass is the Children's Liturgy of the Word held?
The Children's Liturgy of the Word is held on Sunday mornings at the 9:30 AM Liturgy located at our St. Vincent site. The program begins in September and ends the last week of May each year. There are no classes during holidays so our catechists can spend that time with their families.
What age must the children be to attend?
All participants must be at least 3 years of age by September 1, 2010 and not yet in Second Grade. In addition, children must be fully potty trained.
How does the program work?
After the opening prayers of the Mass, Father invites the children (parents if needed) to come forward to the front of the church to receive a blessing and then proceed to the Children's Space in the Lower Level where the program is held. The children return to their families in the church in time for the Liturgy of the Eucharist.
This is a great opportunity for parents to concentrate on the Gospel and join the parish community in worship while their little ones begin their faith formation experience. Children engage in short activities, games and crafts all designed to appeal to their age group. This program helps parents and children participate at their own levels.
