Parish Council Meeting January 27, 2011
The meeting was called to order by Jay Puestohl at 6:30 pm.
Present were: Jay Puestohl, Neal Weber, Bruce Dumann, Carla Gelhar, Janet Weisse, Bob Vajgrt, Irene Derus, Ellen Poeschl, George Benz, Joe Bauer and Father Matt.
Jay had sent the previous meeting minutes to everyone. Bob noted a correction to the spelling of his name. Ellen made correction.
Father Matt lead the opening prayer.
Fr. Matt Introduction
Father Matt told a little about himself and said he likes to Weep, Creep and Leap! He said it will take about 6 months to get the feel for the parish and how things are going and what needs to be done. We then discussed the role of the parish council with relationship to other parish committees. Everyone agreed there needs to be more communication between the Pastoral Council and the rest of the committees, i.e. Worship/Music, Art and Environmental etc. Janet suggested that we have a council member attend each of the committees. It was decided we would get the minutes from each council so we know what they are working on. Jay will contact Jan at the parish office to get a list of all of the committees there are now.
Bob suggested the Chair and the co-chair meet with Father Matt the week before the council meeting to set an agenda for the Pastoral Council meeting. Father Matt agreed and so it will be.
New Member Welcome
Ellen brought up that the new member welcome visits have not been taking place. Joe added that maybe a photo of the new member/members could be taken and posted on the bulletin boards in church or in the weekly bulletin. Jay will talk to Jan about it.
Flower Donations
Ellen brought up weekly flower donations in memory of someone or in honor of an occasion. There was some discussion as to how it would be handled. Father Matt will talk to the Arts & Environment committee to see if they would be interested in taking on the task.
Scrip
Scrip cards were then discussed. Father Matt said they had them in Brillion at his last parish and there was lots of work and financial commitment associated with them. It was brought up that there is a school, possibly OCS, that is going to sell them and they are sold at Most Blessed. Do we really want to compete with those groups? Father is OK with allowing the schools to promote through church.
Upcoming Events
Father gave a brief rundown of events he knows are coming. They are:
- The Bishops appeal starts the week of February 5. He has not received what our goal will be.
- On March 14, Bishop Ricken will be here for the new altar dedication and Father Matt will be installed as our new pastor. There will be a reception to follow.
Other Business
Bob brought up about locking the choir lofts to deter people from using them when they are not needed. Father Matt will take care of it.
The next meeting will be February 24 at 6:30 pm in the Heritage room at St Vincent's church. Items of business for the next meeting include the collection baskets and the side holy water fonts at Sacred Heart church.
Meeting adjourned.
