The Miraculous Medal
In May we take a moment to give thanks for our Mothers on Mother's Day. Most of us head home for this one day to pay homeage to the one that brought us into this world and helped raise us. We come laden with flowers and chocolates and all measure of things we "think" Mom needs. One year, my son, Alex (he was 5 at the time), decided that Mom desperately needed a Star Wars figure for Mother's Day. It just so happened that it was the one he also 'needed' to make his collection 'complete!' He was so excited when I opened the box! He immediately volunteered to keep that figure 'safe' for me in his Star Wars case! It was hard for me to part with Boba Fett, but I eventually gave in! That Mother's Day remains a treasured memory.
May is also a month that we honor our 'Other Mother,' the Blessed Virgin Mary. There have been many times in my life when I have turned to her for help and intercession and she has always proven to be a great source of comfort. I recently had a parent ask me about the meaning behind a medal I had laying on my desk-a Miraculous Medal. I would like to share the answer to that with you, here. It seems especially appropriate during this month honoring both our earthly mothers and Mary, our Spiritual Mother:

Thank you so much to all the parishioners and teens who supported our Pro-Life Drive to benefit the Bella Medical Clinic! With your help we were able to donate over 200 items to help support the pro-life mission of Bella and parents at risk who choose life for their babies.
This past Sunday evening at CYO our teens sorted the donations and then got to work making tie fleece blankets to add to them. The precision, care and prayers these teenagers put into these blankets was a strong testament to their appreciation for the dignity of all human life - no matter how small. These teens truly lived the words of Archbishop Chaput (Indiana), "Nothing we do to defend the human person, no matter how small, is ever unfruitful or forgotten. Our actions touch other lives and move other hearts in ways we can never fully understand in this world. Don’t ever underestimate the beauty and power of the witness you give in your pro-life work."

| Team work is the name of the game, if you want to finish a blanket quickly! |
With precision, Hunter and Jacob cut squares into their tie fleece blanket. |
